Director
Talk to PandaOS: an always-on conductor that runs sessions, opens apps, and answers by voice.
What the Director is
The Director is PandaOS hands-free. Open a Director chat and you talk to an always-on conductor that observes every session, starts new ones, passes your instructions along, answers status questions, and reads results back to you. You speak; the Director delegates. It never writes code itself - real work always happens in sessions you can watch.
While a Director chat is open, the screen shows whatever matters right now: the session being worked on, an app like Gmail, a browser preview of your dev server. With auto-show on, a session that needs you, or one you just asked for, appears on screen the moment it does.
Everywhere else, voice stays one hold away behind a small orb in the corner. Hold it to talk.
Saying things
- "Start a session in pandaos and fix the login bug" - spawns a session and narrates its progress.
- "What's the status?" - the Director answers from what it is watching.
- "Show me Gmail" / "show me the site" - puts the app or a browser preview on screen.
- "Tell the session to use staging" - passes your words into the running session.
- When a session asks for permission, the Director reads out what it wants to do. Answering by voice is off by default; switch on "Approve by voice" in Settings under Director and "yes, go ahead" resolves it. Until then you approve on screen as usual.
Voice engines
- Standard voice transcribes what you say, thinks with your chat model, and speaks the answer. Runs on-device or via the cloud.
- Live Voice is speech-to-speech: one model hears, thinks, and talks back instantly, with barge-in. It uses noticeably more of your plan.
Settings
Auto-show, the Director's model tier, narration level, voices, and the voice engine live in Settings under Director.
